Basis Investment Group is seeking a Senior Tax Accountant to supervise the preparation of Partnership tax returns, assist in the review of quarterly financials and yearly audits, as well as assist with tax and audit tasks required by an independent tax group.

OVERVIEW

Basis Investment Group is seeking a Senior Tax Accountant to supervise the preparation of Partnership tax returns, assist in the review of quarterly financials and yearly audits, as well as assist with tax and audit tasks required by an independent tax group.  Responsible for managing the business’s tax-related engagements from start to finish and liaises with external tax accounting firms, legal, and Limited Partners in order to ensure a seamless Tax process and consistent knowledge of changes within the business in relation to taxes.  Ensures that there is accurate statutory financial reporting throughout the year and, as such, regularly reviews financial books of record and the various journal entries. Maintains quarterly reconciliations of GAAP books to help tax accountants to identify variances.   The position will report to the Controller and will be based in New York, NY.

Basis Investment Group is a New York based multi-strategy commercial real estate (‘CRE”) investment platform that originates and securitizes Agency, CMBS and Bridge senior mortgages, invests in subordinate debt including mezzanine loans, B-Notes, preferred equity, common equity, and opportunistically buys CMBS tranches including B-pieces & performing &distressed whole loans.  With 50+ years of collective debt and equity experience, the key members of Basis management team have originated and closed in excess of $35 billion of CRE investments.  

JOB SCOPE & RESPONSIBILITIES

·      Tax return review and delivery of timely analysis and responses to issues identified by the external tax team.

·      Liaises between the Fund Administrator and tax team. Helps to reconcile variances for GAAP to Tax, cash contributions/distributions

·      Helps with reviewing Financial Statements before they are delivered to tax preparer

·      Tax projections

·      Provide innovative tax planning input and reviewing complex income tax returns.

·      Experience with REIT structures preferred along with REIT testing requirements. Knowledge of international tax, understanding of Cayman/Delaware blocker entity tax treatment and withholding.

·      Review of IRS notices and correspondence

·      Hands on approach with clientele as you develop and maintain relationships

·      Assist Controller and Deputy Controller with Ad hoc projects

·      Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

JOBSKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:

·      Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Accounting.

·      3-5 years of real estate accounting experience with advanced Excel skills.

·      Prefer expertise in Commercial Lending accounting, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

·       Highly proficient with accounting software, Yardi and Expensify.

·      Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and volume.

·      Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

·       Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

·      Excellent analytical skills with ability to independently solve problems.

·      Attention to detail.  Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize assignments, and to meet critical and established deadlines; Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.

·      Self-motivated worker with the ability and flexibility to work in a dynamic, team setting as well as independently.
